Muse AI Not Working? Common Errors & Fixes (Sep 2026)

Waitlist redirects, sign-up errors, and login problems with Meta Muse explained — including what we found testing sign-up ourselves outside the US.

Short answer

Most 'Muse not working' reports trace back to one thing: your account isn't in a supported country yet, and Meta redirects you to a waitlist instead of showing an error. Here's how to tell the difference between that, a real bug, and a sign-up problem.

"Join the waitlist for Muse" instead of signing up

This is the most common thing people run into, and it isn't a glitch. When we tested signing up with a UK connection and a real email, Muse let us fill in name and birthday normally — then redirected straight to muse.ai/access with the heading "Join the waitlist for Muse" and the text: "Muse isn't available in your country or region yet. We'll let you know when it's available to you."

Clicking Join waitlist changes the button to a disabled Joined! state and the heading to "You're on the waitlist." There's no further action available after that — no way to skip ahead.

What this means: your network location at the moment you submitted your birthday didn't look like the US or Canada. This isn't an error to fix — it's Meta's region gate.

Stuck at "Confirm your age" with a credit card request

Some sign-ups — in our testing, this happened on a fresh US connection — skip the waitlist and instead ask for a credit card to verify your age, with a note that $1 will be charged and refunded in 5–7 business days.

In our test, a non-US-issued card produced a generic error ("Something went wrong — we're having trouble completing your request") rather than a specific decline message. Our working theory, not confirmed by Meta, is that this step checks the card's billing address against the country you're claiming — so a foreign-issued card is unlikely to pass even from a US IP address. Treat this as an observation from one test, not a documented rule.

Sign-up fails with a phone number, no explanation

If you tried signing up with a phone number and got a vague error like "We couldn't complete that request. Try again" — with no mention of your region — this appears to be a separate check from the location gate above. In our testing, this happened with a +86 number regardless of what stage the location check would normally happen at, suggesting phone-based sign-up may fail earlier, likely over number format or SMS delivery range rather than location.

App won't open, freezes, or won't load

Muse is a new app under heavy load — Meta reported it crossed a million downloads within its first week. If the app is installed but won't open or gets stuck loading:

  • Confirm you're on the latest version from the official App Store or Google Play listing.
  • Restart the app and your device — a generic step, but it resolves a real share of first-week app issues on any new release.
  • If it opens but then signs you out repeatedly, that can also be the regional gate above re-checking your account status.

Should you try a VPN to get past any of this?

We tested it, and we don't recommend it as a fix. Meta's own official Threads account told a user directly that a VPN "doesn't make it officially available" in an unsupported country, and warned it risks the account. See everything we found testing Muse outside the US →

FAQ

Why does Muse say 'Join the waitlist for Muse'?
This means your account isn't in a country where Muse has launched yet — currently just the US and Canada. It's not a bug. It's Meta's official message for unsupported regions, and joining the waitlist is the only step available.
Why do I get a generic error when signing up with a phone number?
In our own testing, phone-number sign-up returned a generic error ('We couldn't complete that request') regardless of region, suggesting the phone path has its own validation step separate from location checks. This isn't confirmed by Meta.
Does using a VPN fix Muse login problems?
It doesn't reliably fix them, and Meta's own Threads account has said a VPN 'doesn't make it officially available' and can put your account at risk. See our full breakdown of what we tested.
